T.E.D.

Tools for Engineering Discovery

A student-led STEM kit lending library

Hands-on tools, structured learning, and wider access for students who need it most.

What is Project T.E.D.?

Project T.E.D. is a student-led STEM kit lending library. Students check out hands-on engineering experiences like books from a library, complete with materials, instructions, and challenges, then return them for inspection and reuse.

Why It Matters

Many students cannot access hands-on STEM learning. Cost, limited programs, and lack of resources keep them from exploring engineering independently.

Our solution is a tiered kit system that students can borrow and use without prior experience or expensive equipment.

Model: Lending Library
Access: No Experience Needed
3 Kit Levels
5 Pilot Kits
100% Student Led

Three Kit Levels

  • Beginner: Basic circuits, simple builds, introductory concepts
  • Intermediate: Sensors, coding, and applied engineering
  • Advanced: Complex systems and open-ended design challenges

Why This Works

Project T.E.D. is sustainable, scalable, and built for community impact. It reaches students outside traditional programs while teaching responsibility, maintenance, and leadership.

  • Sustainable: modular design and student maintenance keep costs low
  • Scalable: works for schools, 4-H clubs, libraries, and community centers
  • Impactful: expands access to hands-on STEM for under-resourced students
  • Educational: maintenance becomes part of the learning experience

Five Kit Pilot

  1. Launch an initial library of 5 to 10 kits
  2. Implement with a local school or 4-H group
  3. Collect feedback from student users
  4. Track usage, engagement, and kit durability
  5. Refine and expand based on results
Goal: Community Adoption
Next Step: Scale To New Schools

Project Review Summary

This project already looks like a real program. The next step is presenting it as a student-led story of access, impact, and community change.
